Designer Ruben van Megen from Maasbree makes unique tables and chairs. His work has been exhibited and sold worldwide. Based on his fascination with materials, he developed a collection of sand furniture during the corona pandemic. How do the artist Van Megen and the entrepreneur Van Megen relate to each other when the pandemic is over and his new collection does not seem to be a success this time? Hölscher, known for, among other things, They Are Only Germans and The Myth and the Master, became intrigued by the original ideas and the story behind the designs of Atelier Ruben van Megen. He followed Ruben for five years and visualized his creative process and urge to tell stories.

With his very valuable dining table made of bronze with a top made of Persian carpet, he has New York, Dubai and Milan at his feet. But all attention to exclusive design disappears when the world is struck by a pandemic.

In his fascination with materials, Ruben has dedicated himself to making indestructible furniture from sand during the lockdown. With in mind the sand castles from his youth that always had a short life.

He promises his wife, who is also a business partner, a collection of furniture with a low cost price that can be produced quickly. This way, after corona, they can quickly regain the market with an attractively priced new collection. But by adding bronze elements, Ruben turns it into a valuable collection again and causes his partner worries about its saleability. When the pandemic is over, they will go to the most important design fair in Milan in the hope of winning over gallery owners for their 'sandcastle' collection.
