Five years after his passing, the impact of Reinbert de Leeuw on the music world remains as strong as ever. This passionate conductor and pianist, known for his tireless advocacy of contemporary music, embarked on a new adventure in 2017: he brought his own vision of the Matthäus Passion, in collaboration with the Netherlands Chamber Choir and Holland Baroque.
This unique performance was captured by director Cherry Duyns at the Nieuwe Kerk in Amsterdam, using no less than eleven cameras operated by the best in the Dutch film industry. The result is a visual and musical masterpiece that comes close to a live experience, thanks to the superb sound recording. De Leeuw and Duyns miraculously succeeded in offering the audience an extraordinary experience that feels like a live performance.
