In the psychological thriller The Surfer, Nicolas Cage plays the role of a man who, after living for years in the United States, returns to his hometown on the Australian coast to buy back his family home. Together with his son, he plans to surf there, but once they arrive at the beach, they discover a new rule in place: You don’t live here, you don’t surf here.

Here, he comes into conflict with a group of aggressive local surfers. What starts as an innocent situation quickly escalates. In front of his son, he is humiliated and intimidated, and the situation grows increasingly violent. The local surf scene, led by the ruthless Scally (Julian McMahon), has turned into a violent cult, where toxic masculinity and brutal initiation rituals have become the norm. As the conflict intensifies, the man (Nicolas Cage) becomes entangled in a psychological cat-and-mouse game, where his grip on reality begins to unravel.

The Surfer is an unpredictable thriller that pulls the viewer into a wild and exceptionally entertaining ride. With an intense performance from Nicolas Cage, the boundaries between reality and delusion blur as the tension continuously escalates.
