On the eve of the Beijing Olympic Games, Lang (Eddie Peng) tries to rebuild his life and forms an unlikely friendship. The quiet Lang (Eddie Peng) returns to his hometown on the edge of the Gobi Desert after his imprisonment. He starts working for the local dog patrol, which is tasked with removing stray dogs from the city before the 2008 Olympic Games begin. Lang becomes fascinated by one of the dogs they are supposed to capture. He feels an improbable bond with this impressive black dog (Xin). As Lang is confronted by his past, he forms an exceptional friendship with Xin. Black Dog won Best Film in the Un Certain Regard section and the Grand Jury Prize Palm Dog at the Cannes Film Festival.
