Jérémie returns to the sleepy village where he grew up to attend the funeral of his former boss, the baker. His return after a long absence causes a stir in the small community: while widow Martine and the local priest are quickly fascinated by him, Martine's son Vincent wants nothing to do with him. Tensions between the two men rise when it turns out Jérémie has no intention of leaving. When Vincent himself suddenly disappears, Jérémie finds himself in a desperate situation - until he realizes that his charm could be the way to his salvation.

After the successful L’inconnu du lac, director Alain Guiraudie is back with Miséricorde, a black comedy crime drama that shimmers with religious hypocrisy, repressed sexual desires and sinister motives. In his own unique way and at the same time inspired by grand masters such as François Ozon and Alfred Hitchcock, Guiraudie shows an unconventional view of themes such as life and death, desire and shame. Miséricorde premiered in Cannes and was subsequently enthusiastically received by the international film press.
