Queer

Luca Guadagnino
RELEASE Thu 23 Jan

The book adaptation Queer is a raw, romantic drama about an American expat in Mexico in the 1950s, who is looking for love and connection. Daniel Craig leaves James Bond behind for good in this erotic and hallucinatory role.

Craig is sensational in a role swimming in psychological complexity.

Journalist and writer William Lee (Daniel Craig) spends his days in Mexico City in the fifties. There is a vibrant American community there, but he is very much alone. With the arrival of Eugene Allerton (Drew Starkey), William blossoms completely. He is captivated by the elusive young man and overjoyed when Eugene agrees to travel with him through South America. During this journey they seem to become one. But life cannot be controlled.

Director Luca Guadagnino (Call Me by Your Name, Challengers) once again explores notions of masculinity, intimacy and friendship in Queer and does so in a dazzling way. He bases his work on the novel of the same name by William S. Burroughs. Queer premiered at the Venice Film Festival and has been nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Actor (Daniel Craig).
