Maria Montessori tells the story of a woman ahead of her time: Maria Montessori fought for her new form of education at a time dominated by men.

In Rome, during the early 20th century, Maria Montessori (Jasmine Trinca) meets successful French courtesan Lili d'Alengy (Leïla Bekhti). Lili has fled Paris to protect her reputation when her daughter's learning disability threatened to come to light. In that moment, Maria lays the foundations for her new and pioneering teaching method. Through Maria, Lili gets to know her daughter as she is: not just a girl with a disability, but someone with a strong will and talents. In turn, Lili helps Maria fulfill her ambitions.

Maria Montessori is an outstanding story about the strength of women; about sacrifice and solidarity. The film has been embraced by the International Montessori Association:

'This is an exceptional film about some groundbreaking years that helped Maria Montessori shape her views and insights on human development and education. The film beautifully depicts the challenges posed by society: a young doctor in a male-dominated world, a scientist and a new mother. Léa Todorov's sensitive direction is characterised by authenticity. Highly recommended.' Lynne Lawrence, Executive Direction, International Montessori Association
