Sofia is the star of her high school's volleyball team. Just before a decisive match, she discovers that she is pregnant. During her search for the option of an illegal abortion, she is targeted by right-wing activists who prevent women and girls from having an abortion. Sofia does not succumb to the pressure and together with teammates draws strength and support from their unconditional friendship.

Levante is the debut film by filmmaker Lillah Halla and premiered at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival. The film sensitively navigates between acceptance of reality and desire for change, and is a powerful call for inclusion instead of intolerance. The support of her non-binary and female volleyball team is both an indictment of the conservatism that has resurfaced under the Bolsonaro regime and a celebration of friendship and inclusion.
