The visionary architect László Toth leaves post-war Europe for America to make a fresh start with his work, his life, and his marriage to his wife Erzsébet, after being separated during the war by shifting borders and regimes. László arrives alone in a strange new land and settles in Pennsylvania, where the wealthy and prominent industrialist Harrison Lee Van Buren recognizes his talent for building. But power and a lasting legacy come at a high price.
