A powerful portrait of women in which three women in their 70s look back on their lives and in which memories, secrets and desires are poetically interwoven

Memorias De Un Cuerpo Que Arde is a powerful portrait of women that touches on all aspects of being a woman. Three women in their seventies talk about the development of their sexual and sentimental lives, while one actress represents them on screen in every phase of their lives. Growing up in a repressive era in Costa Rica, when sexuality was a taboo subject, 68-year-old Ana, 69-year-old Patricia and 71-year-old Mayela developed their understanding of what it means to be a woman, based on unspoken rules and expectations. Looking back on their lives, the three women only now dare to talk about it openly. The memories, secrets and desires of the three are interwoven in a poetic way. While the women tell their stories off-screen, they fill the body of another woman of their generation who embodies their life on the silver screen. Apart from the impressive stories, director Antonella Sudasassi Furniss manages to give the film extra cachet through a special design. The camera moves seamlessly from one era to the next, from present to past, from young to old and from sad to joyful times.
