In the 1970s, the erotic film Emmanuelle caused quite a stir. The then French president even tried in vain to ban the film. The film acquired cult status and became an international box office success with many sequels. Emmanuelle is still one of the highest grossing films of all time in France. In this first Emmanuelle film, the beautiful, newlywed Emmanuelle (Sylvia Kristél) is bored in Thailand where her husband is often away from home as an ambassador. She embarks on a series of sexual adventures and learns the finer points of desire.
