The Netherlands Film Festival (NFF) is coming to us again! On September 23 we will screen the opening film of the NFF: Witte Flits. In this debut by director Laura Hermanides, a young man is given permission for euthanasia after more than twenty years of psychological suffering. His parents support him in the complex path to a dignified death.

What do you do when your son no longer wants to live? In Witte Flits, 42-year-old Rick has been struggling with serious psychological problems for more than 20 years. After an intensive, years-long process, he is given permission for euthanasia due to unbearable and hopeless suffering. His parents Aagje and Toon are now faced with the task of letting him go for good. Is their love strong enough to support Rick in his deep desire for a dignified ending? In 2013, director Laura Hermanides was deeply touched by two parents who had lovingly supported their son in his struggle for euthanasia due to unbearable psychological suffering. Years of contact with these parents and other closely involved parties ultimately led to her debut film Witte Flits, which opens the Netherlands Film Festival on September 20.
