In this fiery coming-of-age comedy with a vicious ending, a boy at a private school becomes obsessed with post-punk. He does everything he can to fit in and find his place, but with his well-intentioned nonsense he alienates his real friends from him. Before he knows it, he is forced to perform with a band that does not (yet) exist.

Christchurch, New Zealand 1979. Angus is a gullible teenager who will do anything to fit in. He is deeply drawn to the underground post-punk music scene. Determined to become part of this attractive but volatile subculture, Angus distances himself from his real friends and lies about his musical abilities to his new "friends." Overtaken by his own deception, he will have to quickly become the musician he claims to be and he will have to perform with a band that does not (yet) exist. With the support of his friends, especially the talented Kirsten, Angus must overcome fear, ridicule and poor self-confidence to take the stage.
