For centuries it was impossible but now that the eel is threatened with extinction, the search for the mystery of its reproduction takes on new urgency. A colorful group tries to solve this mystery with an expedition to the Sargasso Sea and a laboratory in Volendam. Does the eel reveal its secret to be saved?

On June 24 there will be a Q&A in the audience after the film with music composer Ernst Reijseger, who created the score of the film with special instruments.

In Japan, where the 'unagi' is incredibly popular, eel lover Kenichi has become completely captivated by the enigmatic animal. With never-before-seen underwater footage, the film pays tribute to the hidden and graceful (sexual) life of this elusive animal.
